Friday during our "passion time" with Dr. Lynn, the class brainstormed all their wonders about three very different photographs. We divided up into three groups and had fun researching our wonders. It's amazing how much we learned in just one hour!

During science the students learned about the life cycle of the saguaro cactus. We made a timeline of the saguaro's life and participated in a neat experiment to learn how it stores water in its desert habitat. This week the third graders learned about angles, vertices, and how to name various polygons. They formed polygons with straws and pipe cleaners and measured to find perimeter. The third grade scientists did an awesome job dissecting owl pellets. Using a wooden probe we took apart our pellet and uncovered lots of bones. We used our bone identification chart to try and determine if the our owl’s prey was a vole, shrew, bird, rat, or mole. The students enjoyed an hour of coding with Mrs. Fajks. They did participated in Minecraft and Star Wars coding activities on in the lab and experimented with Greenbrier's new Bee-Bot. It was very cool! The 3rd grade scientists studied bird beaks in science this week. They experimented with various tools (beaks) to try and fill their little bird tummies (cups) with different types of bird food. What fun! The 3rd graders enjoyed learning about all the living things that rely on an oak tree habitat. The students worked hard to create our very own oak tree in our classroom. This week we began learning how to read and write decimals. The students enjoyed playing decimal games with a clock partner. |
