Dr. Lynn presented us with a challenge this week. The challenge was to design a device that could help get toys out from the bottom of a toy box. The 3rd grade engineers worked hard to design and build a prototype of their inventions using makerspace materials. They shared their creation with the class and got great feedback.

Mrs. Akdeniz introduced our class to some cool coding activities this week. We solved tangram puzzles using the Osmo and tried coding with cup stacking. It was awesome! Two of our classmates are passionate about video games. They had fun researching the history of video games and created their very own games using the Scratch Jr. app. They were extremely proud to share this topic with the class. Many thanks to our awesome room moms...Mrs. Ferguson, Mrs. Gonzalez, and Mrs. Hull... for planning a wonderful Valentine's Day party. Thank you to Mrs. Brandenburg and Mrs. Hong for all your help, too. A great time was had by all! Friday morning we learned some really cool facts about hyenas, maltese dogs, snakes, and LeBron James due to the wonderful presentations given by our classmates during passion time. Way to go! :) The class had fun using straws and twist ties to create angles, triangles, and quadrangles this week in math as we learn about geometry. We wrapped up our fiction study by performing a short play called, "Old Dog, New Tricks?" in cooperative groups. It was lots of fun! We definitely have some natural born actors and actresses among us. :) Mr. Jim Bloomstrand from the Cook County Farm Bureau visited our classroom and taught us tons about Illinois agriculture. We learned that Illinois' top crops are corn and soybeans. We also learned about the various types of livestock raised here in our state. |
