Congratulations to our classmates who participated in Greenbrier's annual Multicultural Fair! It was so much fun learning about different cultures. Our differences are what make us unique!

On Friday morning we enjoyed a special visit from Mrs. Pelczynski's kindergarten class. We had a great time buddy reading with our friends. The class learned so many cool facts about mako sharks and cheetahs from our 3rd grade experts. Thanks for sharing your research with us. Many thanks to Mrs. Dodge and Mr. and Mrs. Durham for bringing Everybody Counts to our classroom on Tuesday morning. The theme for third grade is learning about developmental delays. A developmental delay can affect how a person acts, speaks, or processes information. The students rotated to three different stations and experienced how someone with a developmental delay might feel. They learned that it's important to treat others with kindness and respect and.... that Everybody Counts! We culminated our study of forces and motion by designing and building Rube Goldberg machines. Our challenge was to design a device that would wake you up in the morning. Each machine needed to use forces...such as a push, pull, gravity, friction, magnetism, etc. Our teams of scientists were pretty creative. Today the third grade scientists tested out whether a balloon charged with a piece of wool would attract or repel various materials. Thanks for volunteering in our classroom today, Matt! We enjoyed having you here. This week in science we learned that magnets have a north and a south pole, that opposite poles attract, and that similar poles repel. We had fun testing out what happens when you put magnets near each other. It was cool to feel the force of magnetism right in our own hands. We especially enjoyed floating a donut magnet on a pencil and participating in magnet races! Officer Romag from the Arlington Heights Police Department visited our third grade classes on Wednesday. She spoke to us about stranger danger, bullying, and internet safety. She had some really good tips about how to keep safe. |
