On Friday, our snowy day engineer teams used the supplies they had gathered to build the contraption they designed to form and/or throw snowballs. Since it was unseasonably warm on Friday, we used balls of yarn to test out our devices. We presented our creations to the class and reflected on what we would do differently next time. The class had a wonderful time at our Valentine's Day party on Friday afternoon. Many thanks to our awesome room moms and the parents that helped out. This week during "Passion Time" the class listened to the book, The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats. In teams of engineers students began to develop a plan to build Peter, the main character, a contraption to help him make and/or throw snowballs with the big kids. The plans look really cool. Can't wait to see what happens when we start building next week! On Friday, the class worked in small groups to explore some fun math activities with a box of candy hearts. Students estimated, classified, graphed, multiplied, measured, and stacked the hearts. On Thursday our class met with Mrs. Donovan's first graders to talk about the pillar of caring. We read a story about friendship, chatted with a new buddy, and wrote something special about the gator we interviewed. It was such fun! The students have worked really hard to design an original animal and plant to live in the biome they researched. This week we drew used an app called Sketchbook Express and a stylus to draw them. We also recorded our voices. Be sure and check out your child's finished project on SeeSaw. They're outstanding! |
