The third graders had a gorgeous day to visit the farm. We had so much fun learning how to milk a cow, baking pretzels in a wood burning stove, helping out in the chicken coop, and working with a blacksmith. Many thanks to Ms. Miller and Mrs. Guretz for chaperoning.

A big thanks to the Greenbrier PTA for bringing the "Reptile Guy" to our school. We were thrilled to meet and learn about his cold-blooded friends. Some of us even got to pet a snake! :) On Monday, the third graders were put into teams and given a brown bag with a bunch of things in it. The students had to figure out which Midwest state the objects represented. For the next few weeks each team will be investigating a Midwest state and making a presentation using Explain Everything. On Friday afternoon, students from Hersey High School visited our classroom to lead some pretty cool science experiments. Our favorite was making elephant toothpaste for their new mascot. :) Mrs. Palm visited our classroom on Friday morning to lead a "breakout edu." The students worked together to solve clues and break codes to unlock a box that held a special magnet in order to save the world from Dr. Magnetism. It was a very cool experience in problem solving and teamwork. Thanks, Mrs. Palm! On Friday, our class experienced a virtual field trip to several different biomes by using special goggles. It was an awesome 3D experience!!! Dr. Lynn gave our class a challenge during "Passion Time" this week. Our challenge was to design a prototype that would help carry several bags of groceries up many flights of stairs. The students were given two paper plates, two paperclips, and two straws. It was very interesting to see what they came up with a just a few minutes. The third grade scientists had a great time designing magnetic devices to solve a problem in the classroom. A big thank you to Officer Romag for speaking to the third grade classes about internet safety, bullying, and stranger danger. We appreciate you visiting Greenbrier. |
