Friday afternoon we enjoyed rotating to three centers to practice math concepts. We worked on counting money by playing The Allowance Game. We stretched our spatial intelligence by trying to solve puzzle cubes. We practiced our facts using Reflex and problem solving skills with Prodigy and Freckle.

The class has so much fun during our trading post simulation. The "Duffer Trading Post" had us bartering for goods for our families. We experienced what it felt like to "trade" for what we needed. We traded fur pelts, corn, wheat, berries, calico, ribbon, beads, butter, eggs, meat, etc. This afternoon in math we used number bonds to help us add double digits mentally. We had fun playing "Add Mentally" with a classmate. One of our classmates got a special escort to school today! We were so happy to see him! Our class is complete! :) The third graders attended a Music for Youth concert on Wednesday morning. What talented musicians we have here in District 25! Wonderful job to all of you...especially to our friend and classmate that performed. We are so proud of you! Dr. Lynn visited our class Friday to assist us with our "brain builder" hour. We researched our Chicago landmark using a symbaloo of safe sites for kids. We're sure learning a lot of cool facts about these famous places! The third graders had so much fun in the LMC on Friday morning! Mrs. Palm created a "breakout" activity in which we had to use clues to find books in the library using Destiny Quest. We worked in teams and then together as a class to break out! Way to go, 3rd grade! This week in math we learned the game "Guess My Number." One partner created a four digit number and the other person had to guess what it was. The students practiced reading and writing numbers, as well as, using place value terminology to play this game. Reading partners used their independent reading books to search for unknown words. We practiced using our background knowledge and context clues to find the meaning of these tricky words. |
