The students learned about supply and demand by participating in a "fruit stand" simulation. Some students sold apples...while others bought them. Our supply changed and so did our prices. We had a great conversation afterwards as we reflected on our experience.

The third graders are working hard to learn long division during math. Here we are playing "Divisions with Remainders" in cooperative groups. The only way to get better at it is to practice! We had a fun afternoon participating in Junior Achievement activities. Our visiting teachers did a wonderful job teaching us about our city and economic concepts. This week we kicked off our mystery book clubs during readers' workshop. The students are documenting visual thinking routines in their readers' notebooks as they read each chapter. They are excited to discuss each chapter's events and share their thinking. Friday afternoon we kicked off Greenbrier's Heart Challenge! We can't wait to help raise money for children with sick hearts. The third graders finished publishing their second books...personal narratives! Many of the students wanted to sit in the author's chair to share their stories with the class. Others were more comfortable sharing it on Seesaw. Way to go, authors! :) The students gave peer feedback on sticky notes about each others Econ Posters. The feedback gave us an opportunity to improve our posters before submitting them to the calendar contest. Dr. Lynn visited our classroom to introduce a bar modeling breakout! We worked in cooperative groups to solve tricky bar model problems. The answer helped us unlock various locks. We showed great perseverance working through these challenging problems. Our 3rd grade weather experts cut and sorted all their note facts today during science to help organize the information they learned through researching severe weather. Now they're ready to plan out BrainPop videos later this week! |
